With another Redwood choir concert approaching on December 10th, Mr. Carrillo and his students are busy with preparation for their upcoming event. Redwood choir blew the audience members out of the water at their first Fall choir performance. They have a great reputation and are looking to continue expanding it. With this reputation comes a lot of hard work, effort, and time, especially when preparing for an upcoming concert such as the Winter concert.
Diego Gonzalez ’23, a student from beginning Men’s Choir says, “We are practicing our vocals and pieces every day in class.” Choir practices their pieces until they sound the absolute best!” It can often be challenging to focus on choir pieces when working with such a large group of men while also keeping it professional.” Although it can be quite difficult at times, choir students always continue to work hard and get the job done.
But their success can also be attributed to the choir’s willingness to collaborate with other groups on campus, this year having a cello and flute play along with the choir. The cello is played by Laine Roper and the flute by Michelle Yang. In addition to instrumental performers, the choir was asked to perform at this year’s Gifts of Giving, run by FBLA.
Mr. Carrillo is behind the choir’s translingual songs and piece arrangement. Carrillo says, “I try to arrange a carol, or a piece in a foreign language- songs we’ve been practicing since Halloween.” He is though, the most nervous for the final combined piece, calling the combined piece “the hardest.”
Overall, this season choir will be made amazing by the collaborative efforts of instrumental performers, original compositions, amazing assistant teachers, and the sum efforts of all those participating in choir. The holidays are sure to be jolly with Mr. Carrillo’s choir around!
