This story has been updated with the current condition of the driver.
No reported fatalities in a car accident that happened on October 25th around 2 p.m. outside Redwood High School at the corner of Conyer and Acequia. Jayson Blofsky, the driver who caused the accident, was handcuffed and put in the back of a police car, according to eyewitnesses.
Blofsky and the passenger in the truck, who is his mother, were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, said Sgt. Gary Williams, public information officer for Visalia Police Department. Dr. Gonzalez, assistant principal, said that no students or staff members were injured by the accident.
Blofsky sustained two minor injuries, Williams said. Blofsky’s mother complained of chest and back pain before she was taken to Kaweah Delta.
Blofsky was reported to be in fair condition as of 4:10 p.m. Friday, said Laura Florez-McCusker, media relations with Kaweah Delta Medical Center.
Blofsky, 47, who has been charged with driving under the influence, was traveling north on Conyer on the wrong side of the road. A woman driving a black SUV was approaching on the right side of Conyer toward the driver. When she saw the truck approaching her, she stopped to block the road, said Ken Cox, auto shop teacher.
The truck swerved to avoid the SUV, and skidded into a wall at the back of Redwood’s cafeteria and collided with a minivan and smashed a parked white car, Cox said.
Several other cars were hit behind the white car in a chain reaction. At least 5 of these cars are owned by Redwood staff members, said Mr. Lor, Assistant Principal.
The accident happened only minutes before Redwood students would be leaving campus headed to their parked cars, right where the accident happened. Mr. Marroquin, assistant principal, immediately would have thought, “where’s my son?”
“We all have kids both literal and figuratively here,” Marroquin said. “And I would have been looking for kids instead of cars.”
