The Redwood High School volleyball team will face new competition this season as two new teams, Central Valley Christian with a record of 17-9, and Lemoore with a record of 12-10, join the league. The additions will bring new opponents to the schedule and give Redwood more competitive games throughout the season.

Some varsity players said the new teams will bring more competition to league play.

Captain Lalah Shaver, ‘28, said: “They’re both good competition teams, so I think it’s gonna challenge us and push us to be the best versions of ourselves.”

Alexandria Valencia, ’28, gets announced at the beginning of the game.

Redwood players have already started learning about the new opponent. Shaver said she knows players on both teams and has learned about some of their playing patterns and routines.

Shaver says, “The goals for this season definitely are to get a league championship and continue to grow together.”

The team puts a lot of preparation into their practices and studies the way these teams play.

Captain Allysa Hutchison, ‘28, said, “We’re making sure to look at their film so we know what we’re up against and just continue to work as hard as we can.”

Hutchison shares, “I’m super excited, especially for CVC, since they are Redwood’s rivals.”

Playing new teams may bring some nerves to the girls, but players are focusing on what they do best and controlling the outcome of the game.

Senior captain Katelynn May, ‘27, shares what she thinks about the new additions to their league: “Better competition always leads to improvement.”

All the girls shared that they are excited to go against teams that they haven’t seen as much before and the challenges they may bring.

The Central Valley Christian volleyball team previously competed in the Tri-County-Kings league and went 6-0 in the 25-26 season.

May says, “I know that CVC is probably the biggest competitor in our league.”

Players are excited to face the new teams and have set goals of winning a league championship and continuing to develop as a team throughout the season. May said, “I would love for us to win the league.”
