On Friday, October 22, Redwood High School gathered to celebrate the tremendous achievement of the varsity boys Track and Field team for their valley title in the 4×4 relay.
For the Redwood boys Track and Field team, this is becoming somewhat normal. They have repeated their first place finish two years in a row.
Members of both teams, CJ Shin, ‘22 and Karson Everett, ‘22 had a few words to say when asked about their amazing success.
Shin said, “It feels amazing to be here today because we worked really hard throughout the year to get that ring.”
Shin said some highlights for last season were the 4×1 at West Coast, their valley meet, and the 4×4 at Exeter. As for this year, Shin says he is really excited for this upcoming track season and especially looks forward to racing in the 4×1 and 4×4.
AJ Garza, ‘24 said, “It feels amazing to see all our hard work throughout the year pay off and to finally see that ring.”
He goes on to say that not a lot of teams have the talent and skill like the Redwood track team has.
Garza said his favorite memory was when they called their name saying the Redwood boys won valley.
As for what’s coming up next for the Redwood boys, Garza said, “Looking forward to winning another championship, and to have a great season before my 4×1 team leaves. And hopefully go to state.”
Senior multi-sport athlete Everett said, “It feels great to receive the ring, knowing that all of our hard work paid off last season.”
Everett is not only a track star, but he’s also the football program’s star running back and team captain.
Everett said that some of the highlights of last season were going to valley again and winning area, and all the meets that led up to that.
Everett will be running track as a senior this year and plans on winning valley again.
Lucky Reyno, ‘22 said, “Winning the valley was an unexplainable feeling and to receive the ring was even more unbelievable.”
Reyno runs in the 4×1 and is one of the fastest kids on the team.
He said his favorite meets this past season were the West Coast and valley meets.
“I’m looking forward to coming back to win another ring with the team and pushing myself to [personal record] and be the best athlete I can be,” he says.
