As election season approaches at Redwood High School, three students are stepping up to run for ASB Treasurer, each bringing their own ideas and goals for managing student funds and improving transparency: Roberto Correa, Emeli Ramirez, and Nicholas Diaz.

Roberto Correa, ‘28, a returning candidate, shared that his motivation comes from a long-standing interest and determination.

He says,  “I decided to run for this position because I’ve always wanted it since my freshman year”.

After running last year and not winning, he believes this year gives him a stronger chance as an upperclassman. He is especially drawn to the organizational side of the role, explaining that managing paperwork and finances for clubs aligns with his strengths.

Correa described the treasurer’s responsibilities as overseeing school spending, approving purchases such as new uniforms for sports teams, and managing ASB funds.

He emphasized the importance of staying positive throughout the campaign. “If you’re going with a negative mindset, then you’re gonna expect a negative outcome,” he said, adding that he has focused on maintaining confidence and faith in himself.

In terms of campaigning, Correa has been active across campus and online. He says, “I’ve been posting all this week on Instagram every day… and putting flowers all over campus,” he said, noting that he’s also relying on friends to help spread the word.

Looking ahead, Correa hopes to make changes if elected, particularly when it comes to financial transparency. He explained that he wants students to better understand how ASB funds are used and plans to implement a stricter budget.

Emeli Ramirez, ‘27, another candidate, is also focused on increasing involvement and transparency.

After a year in ASB, she said she wanted to take on a larger role. She says, “I decided that I wanted to be more involved with the exec board and actually be kind of behind the scenes of what goes on in treasurer.”

She explained that the treasurer helps budget and manage money for clubs, events, and school programs. Ramirez expressed excitement about the opportunity to run and has been actively promoting her campaign through posters and social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

If elected, Ramirez hopes to improve inventory in the student store. She pointed out that there is often limited variety and wants to offer students more options.

Nicholas Diaz, ’28, is also running for ASB Treasurer. While he did not provide quotes, he remains part of the race, contributing to a competitive election among students interested in taking on financial leadership roles within ASB.

With each candidate bringing different priorities—from transparency and budgeting to student store improvements—Redwood students will have a range of choices as they cast their votes for the next ASB Treasurer.
