Last Friday Redwood ASB announced Keira Bixler and Jonathan Luna as this year’s Freshman President and Vice-President.

Bixler is “beyond excited to represent my class”. She spent last week campaigning and has “met so many new people including the VP, Jonathan Luna.”

She plans to create an “exciting and unique” experience this year. “I plan on many virtual assemblies, spirit days, fundraisers, and events.” She can’t wait to “be back on campus with everyone”. Although going back to school at some point will be “different because of quarantine”, Bixler says it “can still be epic”.

Bixler has had experience with leadership in the past, having “held offices in ASB and CJSF in middle school along with [her] other roles in [the] community”.

In her new student body government position, Bixler wants to make “sure everyone’s voice is heard. I hope to work together to accomplish goals and have the best year ever by listening to [others] ideas and making every event awesome”.

Jonathan Luna, freshman Vice President feels “great after winning this election because all the hard work [last] week actually paid off.”

Luna plans this school year “to bring a positive environment to Redwood and make sure our first year of high school will be a fun year” considering the circumstances with the Covid Pandemic. He “hope[s] to accomplish making sure everyone feels like they belong to a great school”. Whether it be distance or in person learning, Luna wants to “bring fun everywhere”.

Luna says he “has been in leadership for the past 4 years” and has learned a lot of ways to approach this school year. His past mentors have taught him “what being a true leader is all about.”

He expects “confusion and questions” to be some of his biggest challenges this year but wants to be “informed and make sure” he is doing the job well.

Even though Luna and Bixler faced a few challenges while campaigning “since [they] couldn’t meet face to face” they are excited “to start the year and are so humbled” to be given the opportunity to be this years freshman class officers.
