On August 21st, 2019, Redwood High School had Club Day, but the real shakers and movers of Club Day are it’s advisers.
Mr. Eskridge is an adviser for 3 different clubs: History Day Club, Green Club, and, the newest club, Spy Club.
Eskridge describes History Day Club as both a club and a competitive team. The team prepares during the fall semester and present their project in February.
As for the Green Club, Eskridge plans on collecting trash around campus and even in certain classrooms. The Green Club also partners with the city for the Earth Day event and Sequoia Riverlands Trust to do volunteer work up there.
“I think joining clubs in general looks good on your college and job applications, just that you were active in school,” says Eskridge.
Madame Newman is an advisor for the French club, a club she describes as one that allows you to learn a different culture. Over the course of the year, Newman plans to have some social events, do some things with food, and even create study groups for her French students before exams. The club also plans on going to two French restaurants in Exeter.
“Learning about French culture really opens your eyes to the rest of the world, because so much of the world speaks French,” Newman stated when asked why people should join her club.
Finally, Mr. McNitt is an advisor for the Outdoor Club. His plans for the year include many hikes; they have planned 3 so far.
McNitt’s goal is to get kids up to the mountains, and as he explains it, let them see a real redwood tree. “Our school is called Redwood,” says McNitt. “We should go see some sequoias and grow stuff.”
Each one of these club advisers have been a great influence on the kids who are interested in these certain types of clubs and have been looking for a way to experience what they enjoy with their friends.
