During the break between school years, Mrs. Batchelor was hired as a Science teacher. Due to distance learning this year, it has been difficult to get to know our teachers, especially our new ones. Here is a look at Redwood’s newest science teacher, Susan Batchelor.

When Mrs. Bachelor started her career, she was mainly teaching 4th-6th grade classes for Visalia Unified. She later taught at, Divisadero middle school. Batchelor says that for the last 20 years of her position , she was working as a middle school teacher at CVC.

Batchelor states, “I’ve always wanted to come back to Visalia Unified and teach high school. I feel so fortunate to be at Redwood High School.  From the minute I stepped on campus, I could feel the sense of history here, with so many years of students that have gone through before now.” Mrs. Batchelor shares that she is very excited to be a part of the staff here at Redwood.

Batchelor says that she can’t think of another subject she would rather teach. “I have always taught science, with biology being my favorite of the sciences.” She states.

Mrs. Batchelor is married with four adult children, two boys and two girls. She also has a furry addition to the family, a Jack Russell-Whippet mix who, in her words, “Hops like a kangaroo when he’s excited, including when going on walks, which I’m sure is somewhat entertaining to the neighbors.”

Batchelor has an exciting love for music. She shares that she enjoys listening to all varieties such as: classic rock, 80’s, pop, country, 40’s big band, flamenco, and smooth jazz.

Mrs. Batchelor shares her husband’s love for traveling. She states, “One of our favorite places being Fiji, because of the people there and the snorkeling.”

Mrs. Batchelor is looking forward to teaching and getting to know her wonderful students.
