Like some of their Redwood peers, Diego and Joaquin Gonzales have taken on a job on top of their school day. But unlike their peers, twin brothers are both taking on McDonald’s.
Diego Gonzales (‘23) is working his first job at McDonald’s with his twin brother. Diego’s goals while working are to “gain experience in that field and learn how to do things on [his] own.”
Another opportunity that comes with the job is “learning how to manage money.”
When asked how a job feels, Diego says that he “feel[s] independent because [he has] a job.”
This independence also comes with a large responsibility.
Diego acknowledges that “school is a priority. [He does] all of [his] work when [he] need[s] to get things done so that [he] can go to work.”
Diego also takes time from his weekends to work, and he admits it can be very stressful. McDonald’s is “very fast paced” but after working it for some time, “it isn’t too bad.”
He ends by saying that “it is fun to work with somebody you know, and even better when it is [his] brother.” Diego says that they can joke around with each other at work, while also working hard and being able and willing to help one another out.
Joaquin Gonzales (‘23), like his twin brother, is working at McDonald’s for his first job.
He works “so that [he] can have some spending money.” Similar to Diego, Joaquin “feel[s] really independent. If [he] ever want[s] something, or want[s] to buy something [he has] to work for the money that pays for it.”
When asked how he manages work while juggling the workload of a school day, Joaquin says that he has to stay organized and continue to have a plan.
“School comes first, [he] take[s] care of all of [his] school needs and work comes after.”
Joaquin says that it is cool working with his brother because they are able to talk with one another, when they are not busy.
Both brothers are “service people but [they] work in different positions all the time.”
Joaquin ends by acknowledging the work environment. He admits that “[he has] a pretty easy job, [he] would say, so it makes it more fun.”
