Dress up days are supposed to give a normal school day a little more excitement. It creates an environment where people show their school spirit and creativity through what they wear. Love Week is a week that has dress up days surrounded by Valentine’s Day, making Redwood feel a little more loved.
The dress up days consist of picking a color based on your relationship status, Pajama day (night in)/fancy date night (night out), Disney Day, and pink out day. What do Redwood Rangers think about these dress up days or dress up days in general?
Sierra Dismuke ‘21 thinks that the dress up days this year could have been a little more creative. She continues to add that the first dress up day on Tuesday the 11th that involves showing off your relationship status might not be open to everyone because some people consider their status to be more “private.” Dismuke explained that she “loves to dress up” because it makes her week more entertaining and fun, however “when the dress up days are not open to everyone” it makes it hard.
Devennie Rodriguez ‘21 loves the dress up days for 2020. She adds that “the dress up days this year are super simple” making it easy for everyone to feel welcome. Her favorite day happens to be Tuesday the 11th because it has been a “tradition” since her freshman year. She believes that day is the most fun because you get to see everyone’s status, and see the diversity at Redwood.
Many individuals at Redwood would agree to the statement that Love week dress up days are pointless because the only weeks that are important are Cowhide and Homecoming. In thinking this they do not want to dress up.
Dress up Days depend on the individual, whether they feel included, or physically want to dress up is simply their opinion. That being said Redwood still shows spirit no matter what holiday or event is happening.
