Link Crew has been challenged by Covid-19, but takes a victory lap with the trunk or treat and carnival they put on for the 2020-2021 school year. The class/club re-work their events, in order to follow the Covid-19 guidelines, and continue to move forward.

Link Crew consists of sophomores, juniors, and seniors that are known as “Link Leaders” for the freshmen.

Victoria Wall, PE and sports medicine teacher, as well as Link Crew Adviser, says, “Link crew has been better than last year because we’re on campus… and we have more students in the class.”

Even though the events that were thrown by Link Crew, “weren’t 100% back to pre Covid-19… [they] were still able to do some things, which is more than what [they] had last year.”

Wall says, “Link Crew is hoping to build that bridge in the transition from middle school to high school, so that it’s easier to get here and not feel lost in the shuffle of the upper class men.”

Link Crew has been “challenged with the events,” and the “rules with Covid-19.” They normally do a massive haunted house, but because of it being indoors, Link Crew was not able to do that for this school year.

“We did have a successful carnival outdoors. We just had to change some of the things we did in the past,” Wall adds.

Link Crew is “a family… that get’s to know each other very well.” On the first day of school, Wall tells the class, “Welcome to the family.”

“It’s a lot of fun. I like connecting with the kids and giving them the opportunity to find community service hours and change the thought process of doing for others first, before doing for themselves,” says Wall.

Dominic Zaragoza ’22 is a 3 year member of Link crew and is also the president for the class/club.

“The thing that made me join [Link Crew] was the freshman orientation, and seeing how fun the Link leaders were,” Zaragoza says.

Zaragoza also adds, “[His] experience with Link Crew has been great… the family dynamic… is really remarkable.”

Zaragozas’ favorite part about Link Crew is, “the openness that [they] have.. and how [comfortable they are] talking to each other about [their] problems.”

With being back on campus, Zaragoza is “looking forward to the Covid-19 friendly events and holiday grams that [Link Crew] will be hosting.”

“It feels right to be apart of Link Crew… [it’s] a group of people that stick together, and help people feel linked with the school,” says Zaragoza.

Laiba Hassan ’23, is a 2 year member of Link crew and is also Treasurer for the class/club.

“My time with Link Crew has been fantastic. I have had so much fun in class that it’s had a significant impact on my high school career,” Hassan says.

When talking about Link Crew, Hassans’ “favorite aspect… has to be meeting and connecting with students.”

“The first thing that comes to mind when [someone] says ‘Link Crew’ would be Mrs. Wall… She has had such a wonderful influence on me and is unquestionably my favorite,” says Hassan.

Hassan remembers “feeling very welcomed and happy during orientation which was directly from the vibes that the Link Crew students gave off.”

As an officer, Hassan has responsibility, “which makes [her] even more excited about what [Link Crew] will be accomplishing this year.”

What makes Link Crew stand out is, “[being] committed to assisting freshman in realizing that they have a place on this campus; they belong,” Hassan says.

“I strongly advise every student to join Link Crew.. not only [is it] a fun class, but it also allows you to connect with other students that want to do good on our campus,” she adds.

Araceli Martinez ’24, is a first time member of Link Crew, and says, “As a first member, it’s been fun… the people there are really nice and honest. When I’m there it brings out confidence in me.”

When Martinez was a freshman, “it was really hard because of Covid-19 and [she] felt really shy.”

Martinez did not know what Link Crew was at first, but “now [she] has become more open” being in the class.
