On a usual game day, Rangers are heavily encouraged to wear their SuperFan t-shirts and any other Ranger-wear they might have.
This tradition allows football players to have the privilege of getting to look out at the crowd and be greeted with a wave of blue. However, oftentimes there are themed dress-up game days. Last week’s game on September 24, the theme was neon.
With this, the question, ‘why neon?” arose. Jonathan Luna, ’24 of ASB gives us some insight on this situation. He advocates for their decision, “We had a great Homecoming week and it was such an amazing success, and in a way brought the school together as a whole. Neon day… is a fun and simple dress-up day to get the student body hyped for our home game in which is also themed neon.”
Luna uses the neon colors as a symbol for the bright school year the Rangers all hope for.
Although this isn’t traditional, many students had fun incorporating the theme in their Friday outfits.
Aiden Kempf, ’22 actually prefers these themed games. He explains, “I think it allows people to give Ranger spirit some spice.”
Kempf feels as if it creates a different energy at the game than what is usually accomplishes. He adds, “I think a lot of people aren’t dressed up at school, but they will be dressed up at the game.”
Dress-up days give students something else to look forward to at school, the majority of people actively participate and create a fun atmosphere.
On the other hand, some students feel unsure on this situation.
Piper Lambert, ’24 mentions that nobody really participates in these days, however she enjoys participating, herself.
She actually does prefer these days as well, she agrees that it is more fun to dress-up in themes rather than just Ranger blue all of the time.
As a varsity cheerleader, Lambert says that, “There are definitely more people at the games and it’s a better experience because everyone is more hyped up to watch.”
Brienna Burr, ’24 is currently a second-year member of Dance Force.
She is pro-themed dress-up days. She shares that the team even gets to participate in the dress-up days, they wore neon glitter on their faces and neon bows for the game.
When asked if she thinks themed days are better than usual Ranger spirit days Burr says, “They are nice, but it’s always good to show Ranger spirit by wearing SuperFan shirts and Ranger blue.”
No matter how students dress, all that really matters is that they are all participating in something to show love for the football teams and school.
If you enjoyed last week’s theme, there are many more in the future, such as the ‘Pink-Out’ game to look forward to on October 1.
