You’ve waited for this moment for hours, days, even weeks. You’re finally in the stadium.

The crowd is going wild. Thousands of people scream excitedly all around you, anticipating their dreams inching nearer and nearer. Stomping so hard, they can no longer feel their feet. All in an attempt to pave the way for their favorite artist to take the stage.

The lights begin to dim as the platform prepares for the performance. A spotlight follows the backup dancers as they walk on stage in a straight line. They stand motionless in their positions waiting for the setlist to start. The air is still as you wait with high expectations for the headliner to take the stage.

The star appears with blaring music, as the screams heard from the crowd grow louder by the second.

This environment is definitely not for everyone but, for others, it’s where they thrive.

This past concert season alone was a huge one, with an abundance of old and new artists alike going on tours. One girl has made it her personal mission to check off her list of dream musicians to see live in concert.

Kyndall Correia, ‘24, has devoted her life to the arts. At Redwood, she is involved in Drama, Ranger Choir, and Hip-Hop. In the past year, she has attended the concerts of many famous musicians such as Harry Styles, SZA, Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, Conan Gray, and many more.

Correia shares her captivating feelings about the concerts she attends. She says, “I love going to concerts. I love everything about them. I love dressing up and buying merch and everything.”

“I prefer the music live, I feel like it’s so much better with everyone around you, and the vibe and the people. It’s just so good,” says Correia.

Correia’s personal favorites were Taylor Swift and SZA. She shares that the environments of the two concerts are very different. Correia says, “SZA is directed to older audiences and the vibes are more chill but crazy at the same time.” While “Taylor Swift and Harry Styles are directed to younger audiences so it’s a lot more upbeat and lots of screaming.”

Although she makes sure to have as much fun as possible, Correia finds that these concerts are also very productive for her.

Having experience as an artist herself, Correia shares that attending these concerts helps her to build her performance skills. “Seeing concerts live just makes me understand music a lot more than hearing it over the phone,” says Correia. Since watching a variety of different artists from different genres, her overall understanding of music has deepened.

Correia also makes an effort to attend these concerts with her loved ones, so that she is able to share these new memories with them.

Ava Mendez, ‘25, is one of Correia’s closest friends who also attends these popular shows with her. Mendez says that at concerts Correia is, “Super vibrant in the way she acts, and she’s always having a good time with the biggest smile on her face.”

She adds that once, Correia even spontaneously surprised her with tickets to SZA’s concert.

Having grown up with Correia, Mendez says that when the topic of concerts comes up, Correia is “super super excited and hyped,” and always has a fun time picking out her outfit. It being concert culture to wear an outfit based on the artist and album, Correia has a variety of stunning outfits she creates herself to make her experiences better.

Correia also has a unique habit as she prepares to attend her concerts.

Kassen Correia, ‘27, is Correia’s younger brother who avidly attends these concerts with his sister. He says that she is always listening to the playlist of the artist on the way to their concerts. Correia makes sure to brush up on her lyrics before she attends concerts so she can deliver the absolute best energy she can.

Kyndall Correia thrives in this crazy, vibrant environment, which may as well be a second home to her. There is nobody more determined than Correia as she has been to a staggering total of 16 concerts. At each and every concert she attends, she makes sure to either buy a keychain or a t-shirt so she can forever remember her concert conquest.
