On February 18th, 2023 Kiana Lovgren ‘24 was crowned Miss Tulare County’s Teen and hopes to inspire others as she continues her journey towards the title of Miss California.
Kiana Lovgren is the Vice President of community service in FBLA and is a junior officer for The Green Club. She is also involved in CSF and various other small clubs and organizations at Redwood.
Lovgren obtained her title of Miss Tulare County’s Teen on February 18th, 2023, but her journey started back in October of 2022 as she began preparing for the long journey ahead of her.
This competition is composed of applicants being ranked by judges in sections such as, talent for 40% of the final score, private interviews for 30%, fitness and lifestyle for 10%, and on-stage questions as well as an evening gown category for 20%.
Lovgren says, “Since December, up until competition, every single Sunday we have had rehearsal from 1pm to 5pm.”
“That whole couple of months is just preparation for all of this,” says Lovgren.
Lovgren says that her inspiration for entering stemmed from her good friend Keira Bixler ‘24. Bixler obtained the title of Miss Yosemite Valley’s Outstanding Teen back in November of 2022.
Lovgren says, “Keira Bixler is one of my closest friends and she told me that this was a great program so I just went for it and I thought it would be a good idea to at least put myself out there.”
In the talent section of the competition, Lovgren displayed her orchestral skills and showcased her violin.
Mr. Yokota, Lovgren’s Orchestra teacher at Redwood, says that Lovgren is an advanced member of the Ranger orchestra:
“Kiana is a great player and is fifth chair in our chamber orchestra, so she is definitely of one of our top players. She is very committed to her instrument and she plays very musically.”

Before entering the stage, Lovgren says, “I was tearing up because I was just so proud of all of us and how far we all came and grew together. “
After all of her hard work Lovgren says “I want to inspire people to go out of their comfort zones and not be afraid to take any opportunities that are out there. Also, make sure to look out for me and Keira Bixler while we compete in June.”
Lovgren says, “I will have a whole year of service and from June 25 – July 2, 2023 I will compete for Miss California alongside my friend Keira Bixler.”
“It’s not just a pretty crown and a pretty title. I really realized that it’s a lot of work and not just a show.”
