Redwood’s administration held four class meetings on Monday, March 21st in Redwood’s gymnasium to share expectations regarding student civility.

Items including attendance, dress code, cell phone use, respect, bridge traffic, and the lack of school spirit were covered.

Principal Shin, the presenter, says it was also the time of the year to “[give students] some reminders” about administration’s expectations and stress the importance of civility to students.

Shin says that there are some gaps in experiences for many students because much of middle school was affected by the Covid pandemic.

“The issue is [that] I’m not seeing the maturity [currently] that we’ve seen in the past.”

Despite administrative attempts to mend attendance issues, students are still racking up tardies and absences.

Shin says that a school year online had a large effect because online classes were different. He adds, “You will not go far in life if you don’t work hard.”

Board policy regarding dress code was reviewed so that students can make informed decisions about what to wear to school as spring and warmer weather approach.

Shin emphasizes the fact that the board sets dress code policy.

Expectations regarding respect and tolerance of the diverse Redwood community were also reviewed.

At the end of the meetings, Principal Shin invited students to participate in school spirit building activities like Ranger Week and wearing Superfan Shirts on Fridays.

Meetings ended with leadership students leading the spell out and inviting students to join in school activities.

At the close of the meetings, Mr Shin encouraged students to engage with the end of the year.

“Let’s do this loud and proud like the TRUE Rangers you are.”
