The Redwood Girls Waterpolo team played their final game of the year on November 8th, 2022, against Morro Bay. Although they fell short, the team won an East Yosemite League (EYL) championship this year for their first year in the new league.

Most Valuable Player, Hannah Kempf 23′ says “I feel like the season went really well. We went 9-1 in league which I am very proud of and when we lost we did so much better the next game. In our games outside of league our team performed really well.”

Kempf played her last game as a Ranger, when asked about it, she says, “I’m really sad, it didn’t hit me until way after the game. I had a lot of fun so I’m happy that we ended our season on a good game.” Kempf is very proud that her team won EYL and that they put their best efforts toward valley.

Emelia Rasner 25′, was an Attacker that led the team in goals with 120 and won a total of 97 sprints. When asked about the goals for the team this year, Rasner says, “The season was very successful. Our goal for the year was to win EYL and we accomplished it.”

Rasner says that her and her team have bonded more this season than they have any other season. She says, “Having such a fun team really made this season enjoyable. Our bond made us a better performing team.” Rasner also says that the team bonds through tournaments and team dinners.

Reese Huerta 25′ was pulled up to play with varsity after her season with Junior Varsity (JV). She says that she “Feels great about the opportunity because it took a lot of hard work to get there. A lot of double practice days, where I would wake up at 5 AM to practice with JV and then with Varsity after school.

Huerta also says that the team bonded very well. She says “We had a strong bond because of the bonding activities we did. Like pasta feeds where each player would hose a meal at their house after practice.”
