Girls varsity volleyball took an unfortunate loss on November 8th against Chaminade High School in three sets.

Both schools ended their seasons with close records. Redwood Rangers ending with 32-5 and Chaminade Eagles ending with 38-3.

Hazel Green ‘24 had been playing volleyball for about eight years and it is her first year on varsity. She is number 13 on the court. When asked what is her favorite part of being on the team she says, “Definitely making memories and how fun it is together”.

Ashlyn Guenter ‘24 has been a varsity player for two years. Her player number is 10 and is a right side hitter on the court. When asked how the playoffs went she says, “We were playing really good but they just beat us out in the end, it was super fun and I think it was definitely memorable for our team.”

Even though our rangers took a loss their amazing team spirit never ends.

Devyn Castanada ‘24 has been a volleyball player for 7 years and a Redwood varsity player for 2 years now. Her position on the team is a libero and is number 6. When asked what’s her favorite part about being on the team is she says, “I just love the connection with the girls, literally everyone is friends, and no one ever gets left out”.

Here at Redwood our team’s connection is like family, always encouraging and supporting one another.

Each game has special moments no one but players see, when asked for their highlight of the game, Green ‘24 says, “When we got a point and our team mates cheered so loud that she ended up on the floor from excitement and everyone was jumping up and down because we got the point”.

Another highlight from the tournament was from Castanada 24’, “I had dug a ball and I got a kill, it made me so happy” she says.

These special moments for an athlete are what makes a team fun. Moments where games aren’t always about winning but about the journey and the memories you make on the way.

“One thing I think we should focus on more instead of winning is bonding as a team because I want to remember my high school experience as fun and memorable and not just winning all the time”
