On Monday, Redwood High School students gathered in the gym for the homecoming rally, where they saw the top ten nominees representing their school. Of the 40 king nominees, five were chosen by the senior class.
Cristian Carlos
Homecoming candidate Cristian Carlos, ‘25, was nominated by the Redwood football team which he was a part of for all four years of high school. He says it came as a surprise when he was announced as one of the candidates.
Carlos says, “I was thankful that they chose me to be a representative of the team and I’m grateful that people voted for me.”
He says his plans for his campaign are, “My campaign is to get as many people I can to support and vote for me”
Ahmed Aziz
Homecoming candidate Ahmed Aziz, ’25, was nominated by Future Business Leaders of America [FBLA], which he has been a part of for all four years of high school. He says when he made it to the top five he was excited and grateful to be a part of homecoming week.
Aziz says, “My campaign plan is to get the message out there to vote for me as much as I can and reach all the demographics of this school.
“I remember watching all of the lunchtime games freshman year and seeing people win and thought it would be really cool if I was there my senior year,” Aziz says when asked if it’s been a dream of his.
Colton Hayes
Homecoming candidate Colton Hayes, ’25, was nominated by the Drama club, which he has been a part of for all four years of high school. He says that as a freshman he never would have thought that he would be there and make it to the top five.
Hayes says, “My campaign plan is to go all out for the dress-up days and make fire posters to get the word out and let everyone see my campaign.”
‘my reaction at first was shell shocked because I came late to the rally and was confused, so when they called my name I was like this can’t be happening. I was so surprised and then I got really excited when I realized what happened”
Salvador DeLaCruz
Homecoming candidate Salvador DelLaCruz, ’25, was nominated by choir, which he has been a part of for all four years of high school. He says ever since he saw his friend become homecoming king he thought being one his senior year would be fun.
DeLaCruz says “My campaign plan is to just be funny and corny and not take it as seriously, people just have to be fun with it.”
“I was surprised because I didn’t expect myself to win so when they called my name I was super nervous but after I was like wow I really won that.” Says, DeLaCruz when asked how he reacted to being nominated.
Wesley Ball
Homecoming candidate Wesley Ball, ’25, was nominated by ASB, which he has been a part of for two years in his junior and senior years. He says ever since he saw the first homecoming he felt that as a senior he wanted to be there and have fun.
Ball says, “My campaign plan is two words Baller Nation, that’s my slogan and it’s been a running thing from when I ran for junior class vice president and treasure this year so it stuck on and we’re gonna keep it going”
“I was super grateful to be nominated by ASB there’s a lot of people in there and I’m just happy to be nominated by them and I felt honored,” Ball says when describing how he felt when nominated.
It is clear that the composition will be tough among the top five, but they all have something to offer the community and represent all students across campus. The results for homecoming king will be announced at half time during the homecoming game this Friday.
