The month of March was filled with activities, traditions, and school spirit. Principal Matt Shin says, “There [was] not a dead week [at Redwood], a week without something going on.”

From Buff Ball to Redwood’s very first Mrs. Ranger, ASB was constantly working to create a fun month for Redwood students, teachers, and staff.

Shin says, “ASB [is] constantly in motion. I see activities at lunchtime, whether it be corn hole games or just music being played.”

ASB held a rally for Mr. and Mrs. Ranger week, created posters to put around campus, and planned many school activities last month and will continue to do so.

On the academic side, upperclassmen took the CAASPP [California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress] test.

To accommodate testing, administration implemented a block schedule for “CAASPP week” schoolwide.

Redwood’s Mineral King Bowl, tennis courts, fields, and pool have been filled with student athletes working hard to represent Redwood athletics.

According to Shin, student turnout at home baseball games has risen. Participation in school activities has improved as well.

Shin says, “I see kids hanging around again, after school, going into the library, using the tutoring, it’s a good thing.”

In addition, Redwood Dance is preparing for their annual dance show. After two years, they can host the show normally.

Shin reports issues with tardies, lack of motivation, and student defiance.

He says, “I think as the semester drags on and we get closer to spring break, people are ready for a break. They’re tired.”

Tardies have been a consistent issue throughout the year. Students have been struggling to get to class on time or attend school at all.

Shin tells students, “Come to class on time, come ready to learn. It’s going to make you better as a person and better prepare you for life after high school.”
