As September concludes, Dr. Amanda Richard looks forward to Cowhide and aims to focus on connecting the Freshman class to Redwood traditions.

Dr. Amanda Richard has now been Redwood High School’s Principal for two months. The school welcomed her in August at the start of the year.

Dr. Richard says, “September was pretty good. I’m super excited that we’re moving into the Cowhide season and I’m really excited to see the tradition in its full effect.”

After two months at Redwood, she noticed the school has a strong culture. “I feel like kids want to be involved with Redwood High School in one way or another,” she says.

Dr. Richard’s main focus for the year is connecting Freshmen to said school culture.

She says, “I feel like a lot of freshmen maybe don’t really understand the tradition of Cowhide and how important it is to school culture.”

Running a high school comes with challenges. Dr. Richard says, “The most obvious one that we’re facing right now is the construction projects that we have going on.”

Dr. Richard works to ensure that these challenges affect students as little as possible. “I want [students] to focus on enjoying school and participating in [their] education,” she says.

Message to Students

“We’ve [got to] get the Cowhide back! I think that everyone can participate in that, not just the football team, just by showing [up] for the week of Cowhide and participating in traditions and showing up for the game and being supportive of our team.”-Dr. Richard
