The students of Redwood High School wrote letters to senior citizens at the retirement home on Walnut.

Of what started as a COS project, Katelyn Silva and Julissa Barreras were able to make this happen. Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, they thought this event would be a good opportunity to make the elderly people feel better on this day.

They had Redwood Rangers write sweet letters and notes to senior citizens in the library during lunch on the 23rd and 24th of January.

Azul Cisneros ‘26 says, “I want to make their day and cheer them up because we never know what they are going through.”

Most senior citizens don’t get visited by their families, Cisneros made sure to keep that in mind so she could write cheerful things for them.

Mental health is something elderly people struggle with. Households who have senior members of their families in a retirement home should be visiting them.

Araceli Martinez ‘24 says, “I think this will positively affect them and just remind them that there are still people out there that care about them and that there is still good in the world.”

Redwood students want senior citizens to know that there are still people in the world who have goodness in their hearts and care about them.

Katelyn Silva ‘26 says, “ I hope this brings them happiness, we told the employees that we wanted to do a surprise for Valentine’s Day.”

It’s amazing to see the kindness students have in their hearts for the elderly!
