The annual Freshmen Tailgate on August 21st will bring new students together for games, food, and free entry to Redwood’s first football game.
Redwood’s Link Crew will host the Freshmen Tailgate before the first football game of the season on August 21st, giving new students a chance to meet new people, play games, and get involved in the Redwood Community.
The event will be free for freshmen and will also get free entry for the game as well.
“The goal of the Freshmen Tailgate is to help the freshmen get involved and learn how to be a part of the Redwood community itself,” said Mrs. Braun, the Link Crew adviser.
The tailgate will have vendors including a taco truck and Kona Ice, along with activities like a pie eating contest and a water balloon challenge.
Students can also visit a face paint and body painting table to show more Redwood spirit for the game, themed as a blue out.
Some games that will be at the event are “Connect 4, Tetris things along those lines,” said Alisha Munoz, ‘27, a member of Link Crew, “and there’s gonna be events on the stage.”
Other games will include volleyball, jenga, cornhole, and other additional entertainment.
Free snacks and stickers will also be available during the event.
The Freshmen Tailgate tradition goes all the way back to 2011, according to Tou Lor, a former Link Crew adviser who was in charge of the club that year.
“It’s been awhile so my memory may be a little off,” Lor said, “But, I took over Link Crew in 2011. So, the first Freshmen Tailgate would have been in the fall semester of 2011.”
“Go!” Braun said when asked what advice she would give to the freshmen thinking of attending the event. “It’s free and a fun way to hang out with your friends and meet new people. Plus, you get into the football game for free.”
