Since August 13th Redwood High school has been teaching students through virtual learning and zoom meetings. With this new dynamic, it brings new challenges to hands-on classes like Studio Art.

Studio Art is one of the many electives that are still available to take during this pandemic and school year. Freshmen not only are new to the hardships that come with being in high school but are also new to taking a class like virtual studio art.

When individuals were asked what aspects in Studio Art were positive,  Eve Marquez, ’23 explained “We have started learning about how different types of lines and different types of shapes can tell how you feel in art which was really cool.”

In order to be successful in Studio Art, during a normal year at Redwood, students need “determination, patience, and skill,” says Syana Moreno, ’23. Those same aspects apply when doing Virtual studio art over zoom lectures.

Steve Harris, Redwood Art teacher says “Even though I have to teach the same course 10 times; I always remember that each class is the first time for each student, so I always try to stay upbeat, positive and energetic,¨he says when asked about how he was welcoming Freshmen in Studio Art this year.

Studio Art is a great class that incoming freshmen like Marquez and Moreno can enjoy taking. New freshmen this year do not have to fear when taking Studio Art this year because it can be a very nice experience with teachers such as Mr. Harris who supports his students by staying upbeat, positive, and energetic with every class he has.
