Here’s the Five For Friday, bringing you Redwood students summer favorites.

2024 was a great summer for music, having artists such as Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan topped the charts. Meanwhile others like Charli XCX and Megan Thee Stallion finally released their anticipated albums. Kendrick Lamar’s diss tracks gained hundreds of millions of streams, while country stars like Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan maintained their chart dominance over the genre.

Anthony Bautista, ‘28, says he spent his summer, “At Redwood High School most of the time, playing football.”

Bautista says his favorite song he listened to over the summer was, ‘PRIDE’ by Kendrick Lamar. His favorite album he listened to was ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ by Kendrick Lamar.

“I was more of a ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ fan, but now listening to the whole album it’s really good, and all the songs are good.” 

Bautista says an artist that gets him in the mood for summer is the Wu-Tang Clan.

Jason Clavel, ‘28, says over summer, “I hung out with my friends and it was fun.” 

His favorite song he listened to over the summer was, ‘530’ by Kanye West.

Clavel says artists he listens to during summer are, “Rod Wave and Kendrick Lamar because I like his storytelling.” Clavel says, “I just listen to Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar.”

Over the summer Jacob Alvarez, ‘25, says, “I just relaxed and slept.” 

Alvarez says, “I listened to Charli XCX’s new ‘brat’ album, and Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short n’ Sweet.” 

Alvarez says, “I liked ‘360’ and ’365’.” 

He says artists that get him in the mood for summer are, “Definitely Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry, because their music is very upbeat and a lot of them are about summer.”

Another student, Shariah Jones, ‘25, says, “My summer was really good. I went to the Bahamas and swam with the pigs and turtles. I hung out with my friends and went to L.A. I went on Rodeo, did some shopping at the Grove. It was a great summer.”

She says songs she listened to over summer were, ‘Please Please Please’ by Sabrina Carpenter and ‘BIRDS OF A FEATHER‘ by Billie Eilish.

Jones says her favorite album was, “Billie Eilish’s new album, and my favorite was ‘CHIHIRO’.” Jones says she listened to, “Nicki Minaj because she’s the queen of rap.”

Lastly, Brooklyn Fierro, ‘25, says, “My summer was pretty good and relaxing. I celebrated my birthday with my family. I also went to L.A.”

Fierro says, “If I had to choose a song I had on repeat over summer, one of my favorites was ‘Magic Touch’ by KISS, that has got to be one of my favorite bands as well.”

Fierro says, “I mostly listened to rock and a mix of pop during summer.”
