Here’s the Five For Friday, bringing you five songs you should add to your playlist. This week’s songs are the favorite songs of the Editors of 6th period Journalism.
Bella Aldridge ‘23 is the editor of Clubs & Lifestyle and got into Journalism thanks to her brother who was in it the year before and spoke really good things about the class.
“My brother had previously been in it the year before and he always talked good things about the class so I wanted to join in.”
She has been in Journalism since freshman year and has loved all four years she’s been in it.
Aldrige’s favorite song is ‘Have A Cigar’ by Pink Floyd due to very dear memories she has with it.
“I really like Pink Floyd because it really makes me think of bonding times with my Dad. I was listening to Pink Floyd, Buzz Eplin, and Arrow Smith, those types of bands, with my dad. So it just brings good memories.”
Donya Hassanshahi ‘25 is also the editor of Clubs & Lifestyle along with the editor of Humans of Redwood. Having been in Journalism for two years, she got into Journalism to help the voices of fellow students.
“I wanted to be able to voice the opinions and thoughts and formulate my own platform alongside fellow students and fellow journalists in order to expand on their perceptions as opposed to just having staff members, and having their thoughts being vocalized. So I’m really happy to be a part of a community that engages with the students and uses their platform to insight their admiration for their school and the activities they participate in.”
Hassanshahi's favorite song is ‘I miss you, I’m sorry’ by Gracie Abrams.
“I’m absolutely am in love with Gracie Abrams and I love all the music she produces. Her bridges are just so immaculate and I admire her ability to construct such lyrics that possess meaning and depth to it.”
Mariah Gomez ‘24 is one of the editors of the Sports section and has been in Journalism for two years. She has very much enjoyed the two years she’s been in Journalism.
“I got into Journalism because I like writing and I wanted people’s voices to be heard.”
Gomez‘s favorite song is ‘Pursuit of happiness’ by Kid Cuddi.
“It makes me really happy and has a good beat to it.”
Yoselin Reynoso ‘25 is the editor of the Social Media section which works on posting stories to the Gigantea’s social media platforms like Tik Tok and Instagram.
Being in it for 2 years, she first got into Journalism because she thought it was cool and has enjoyed her experience in it.
“You get to explain people’s stories and I get to do Tik Toks which is pretty cool because before I hated being in front of a camera, but I feel like that definitely helped me work on who I am.”
Reynoso’s favorite song is ‘Mentiras’ by Grupo Los De La O.
“I love the beat of it. I like what it says and I think that people can relate to it.”
Jalen Bullock ‘23 is not only one of the editors of the Arts section but is also the 6th period Editor in Chief and has been in Journalism for 3 years. When he started Journalism it was during the quarantine in the height of Covid-19.
“I joined journalism in my sophomore year and originally I thought it was a creative writing class. I was like oh you just write books, I used to really be into writing when I was younger. And I was like oh so it’s just writing… I really fell in love with telling Redwood stories. I fell in love with podcasting, y’know with the Everything Entertainment podcast which I do with Issac.”
Bullock’s favorite song is ‘Heartburn’ by Wafia but specifically the slowed and reverbed version.
“It’s about a toxic relationship. I personally never had experienced a toxic relationship but i can empathize with somebody you love so much and their not reciprocating your feelings in a way. I could be in a perfect mood, having the greatest day of my life and I just put that song on and I can feel what Wafia is feeling.”
That’s the Five For Friday bringing five more songs into the spotlight for you.
