Redwood FFA [Future Farmers of America] recently elected officers to serve the 2022-2023 term.

FFA elections significantly differ from other student elections. The process is professional and thorough.

To start the campaign, students must fill out an extensive application. It is then sent to an interviewing committee along with a cover letter and a résumé.

The interviewing committee consists of a regional advisor, administration, and teachers across the San Joaquin Valley.

The committee evaluates the students by conducting interviews and reviewing their applications.

Applications are assessed using a rubric that holds students to ambitious standards, such as how they are dressed for the interview, how well their responses are conveyed, and even the ink color on their applications.

The committee then selects the top candidates and relays the results to the chapter advisor. Once the scores come in, chapter members vote for their chosen candidates.

John Coon is the Agriculture Instructor at Redwood. He serves as the Redwood FFA chapter advisor.

Coon says, “I’m very thankful that our members in our chapter take the voting and the process so seriously, they want to pick good people that will serve the chapter [well].”

Redwood FFA recently re-elected three incumbent officers and elected three members to serve their first term.

Lillie Wassam, class of 2023, was elected President. Madison Andrade, class of 2023, was elected Vice President. Regan Richard, class of 2023, was elected Secretary.

FFA welcomes Treasurer Sadie Hemphill, class of 2025, Reporter Marileigh Coon, class of 2025, and Sentinel Jackson Coon, class of 2023.

“I’m really thankful for all 10 candidates who stepped up and said, ‘We are willing to give this a try’. That takes a huge amount of courage. It just makes me really proud to see that we have that [level of] quality in kids all over the campus of Redwood High School.”
