Rangers involved with Future Business Leaders of America [FBLA] competed at Section at Matilda Torres High School in Madera on Saturday, February 18.

On February 18th FBLA competed in their section competition, a regional competition where all chapters from the valley come together to compete in a variety of events.

Overall, Redwood’s FBLA won first place in the Doris Lowe Sweepstakes, meaning they had the most participation in their chapter, with many other students winning in their events.

Jake Bettencourt, ’25, and leadership partner on the officer’s team, competed on Saturday winning fourth place in his event.

When Bettencourt arrived Saturday at the completion he took an objective test, “a one hundred question test which you have to do in one hour,” says Bettencourt.

For his event, Bettencourt says, “I did word and spreadsheet.”

Afterward, Bettencourt says he “felt good because it was over.”

Donya Akhavon, ’23 president of FBLA, competed in business communications winning first place in her event.

Akhavon says, “I studied a decent amount, so I felt pretty confident and then I felt really good after because I got first.”

In mid-April, FBLA will be moving to State. Their next competition will be in Sacramento.

“If you’re looking for any opportunity to step into the world of jobs and get an idea of different professions, this is the place to be.”
