There are many movie and TV stereotypes that imply how highschoolers should dress, but how do they actually dress? Is the movie expectation of wearing stilettos and skirts to school actually a reality?

To answer our question we went around school to seek out one person from each grade to talk about their outfits.

Natalie Bovetti ’23 rocking some fancy boots!

Q: What inspired your outfit? A: “So this morning I woke up and I was feeling a little bit fancier, so I decided to go with some boots and a nice sweater!” Q: Is this a good representation of yourself? A: “I think so, I feel like clothes are a good way to express yourself and to be confident.” Q: Which clothing store(s) describes your style? A: “Probably American Eagle and Urban Outfitters”. Q: Do you plan your outfits the day before or do you plan them in the morning? A: “Usually in the morning.”

Emely Luna ’22 wearing a pretty, emerald green top

Q: What inspired your outfit?A: “I’ve just been seeing the trends going around and wanted to try being a little bit aesthetic.”
Q: Is this a good representation of yourself? A: “Kind of, I’m a humble person I guess. I just like chill clothes.”
Q: Which clothing store(s) describes your style? A: “I wear a lot of Hollister.”
Q: Do you plan your outfits the day before, or do you plan them in the morning? A: “Lately I’ve been doing them the day before.”

Kylie Gardner ’21 layers a cute denim jacket with buttons on top of a fuzzy sweater

Q:What inspired your outfit?A: “I thought it looked cute and I wanted to look cute today.” Q: Is this a good representation of yourself?

A: “I would say so.” Q: Which clothing store(s) describes your style? A: “Cotton On. I love their jeans so much. I like it because there’s plain stuff and then there’s kinda like nicer things.” Q: Do you plan your outfits the day before or do you plan them in the morning? A: “I plan them in my head. I’ll have a thought of what I’m gonna wear and then if I don’t like it in the morning, I’ll change it up.” Q: Do you think you are expectation or reality? A: “Today I’d say I’m expectation, but yesterday I was definitely reality.”

Bella Hornburg ’20 layering corduroy on denim!

Q: What inspired your outfit? A: “Myself, I like wearing different colors.” Q: Is this a good representation of yourself? A: “Yes, because I like to wear corduroy.” Q: What clothing store(s) describe your style? A: “I like to shop at Pacsun, Urban Outfitters, Princess Polly, and Joshua Tree.” Q: Do you plan your outfits the day before or do you plan them in the morning? A: “It depends if I wake up on time.” Q: Do you think you are expectation or reality? A: “Reality”.

This just shows that movies give misleading portrayals of how high school students should dress. Not everyone dresses fancy for school days. Sometimes it is fun to mix cute with comfortable.
