After an amazing performance of the Wizard of Oz, all drama fanatics are anxious about what comes next in the drama department. Mrs. Galvan, drama teacher, and director of Redwood’s musicals hosted a meeting on March 2nd, to discuss the future plans involving Redwood’s 2020 fall play and 2021 musical.
In that meeting she announced that the Fall Play will be “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” while the musical will be “Footloose.”
Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon involves many stories combined to create a full on play. The play interweaves the Grimm Brothers’ 209 stories into one fast-paced, complex, and hilarious production.
Some tales that are told in Brother’s Grimm Spectaculathon are Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Snow White.
The musical Footloose is all about a man moving from Chicago named Ren McCormack. He is in shock when entering the small town, that he soon would call home.
What comes to a surprise for him is that dancing and rock music have been banned from this town. Ren wants to change that problem. With the other main characters, Willard Hewitt and Ariel Moore, Ren tries to persuade the conservative town to change their perspective.
With this exciting news, many Drama members of Redwood are ready to start the next best thing. Peter Nunez, ’21, believes that “this musical has a different theme and style than the previous years.” Nunez continues to elaborate on how the change in theme” allows for more mature messages.”
Nunez explained that the musical is a big part of Redwood culture so, “over a hundred people will audition.” He expresses that this will probably be his favorite musical so far, because “of how dance heavy it is.”
Cade Gann, ’21, is ecstatic for the musical and fall play next year, because he loves drama as a whole. Gann hopes to receive a “significant part in next years productions.”
