Nathan Delgado, who stars in Redwood’s production of “Anastasia”, furthers his role of a thief to a man with a huge heart.

Nathan Delgado, ’26, is back on stage this year, leaping straight into a leading role.

Being a lead isn’t new to Delgado. His role as Prince Eric in “The Little Mermaid” was his first lead role in a musical at Redwood. He says he’s grown since then, as an actor, and vocally. He’s ready to show a new version of his skills as Dimitry in “Anastasia”.

In Delgado’s eyes, he sees the whole of the character Dmitry, aside from the con man.

“He has a huge heart. In the circumstances that he’s lived through, he’s had to become a thief and like a con man. But he truly loves, and when he loves, he loves deeply,” he says.

The character of Dmitry, being sort of a con-artist type, clearly shows a contrast with Delgado’s personality, but they do share one great quality.

“I feel like I can correlate with Dmitry just through the way that he loves. I feel like I love similarly, I feel like I can love really deeply,” he says.

Delgado finds it harder to play the thief side of Dmitry. “Trying to act like a con man and like, that’s just not my personality,” he says.

The rest of the cast helps out Delgado in case he might miss a rehearsal. They tell him what they did that day, or just to help him get through things like music, or to calm his nerves.

“I’m most nervous to perform my big solo songs,” Delgado says.

He describes the play “Anastasia” as “A girl who just lost her memory, she was a princess, and her entire family died because they were killed by Russians. Two guys try to help her get back to her grandma, but it was kind of like a plan just to get money out of it.”

To experience Delgado’s version of Dmitry, opening night is February 5th at the LJ Williams Theater at 7 P.M. If you can’t make opening night, he will also be performing on February 6th at 7 P.M. and February 7th at 2 P.M. and 7 P.M.
