Navigating a new school year can be stressful. Navigating a whole new school and town can be even more stressful, even for the teachers. But there is a certain teacher who is taking it with ease.

Dezirae Gonzalez, a previous staff member at Foothill High School says about the school, “You have probably never heard of it and that’s okay.” Gonzalez is excited about a couple of things coming this school year, She says, “We’re going to be working on some gothic literature with the sophomores which is super cool.” Gonzalez says, “In terms of Redwood High School events, I’m really looking forward to homecoming.”

While not attending Redwood in high school, she spent a lot of time in Visalia. She was in a band and many of her friends attended Redwood. She says, “I actually grew up in Porterville, spent a lot of time in Visalia growing up because I was in a Mariachi band in Visalia.” Gonzalez says, “I knew I wanted to work here in Visalia it’s been a goal of mine, Redwood has always been super fun. I also grew up with a lot of friends who went to Redwood.”

Moving to an entirely different school means working with an entirely new group of students. Moving through a unique situation like that can be difficult, Gonzalez says, “It’s exciting to work with a new group of kids. Every person and every group of students has their own personalities and their own things that they like.” She also says, “It is a lot of fun getting to know new students no matter how different they are.”

When outside the classroom Gonzalez says that while she doesn’t advise any clubs, she enjoys going to the beach and doing lots of reading. she says, “I travel a lot and by travel, I usually travel to the beach. If I can I’ll go to the beach.” Gonzalez says, “I wish I could tell you I’m more adventurous, but reading is as cool of a hobby as it gets.”

Gonzalez says she is having a lot of fun so far with the school year. She is excited to be teaching at Redwood and has enjoyed talking to all the students at Redwood so far. She says, “I love it. I’m having a blast. I haven’t met a single student who hasn’t made me laugh or who made me smile, I’m having a great time.” Gonzalez says, “Everyone is so inviting, everyone is very much supportive of athletics and clubs and your spirit is just great.”
