Going into this game, the Rangers had a lot on their minds, especially the fact that they needed to get this win, but that was going to be a challenge. As left fielder/pitcher Dakota Brown explained it, “It’s our mental side of the game that is killing us.” Everyone knew going in that “SJM is a tough team” but the Rangers had a feeling they could get it done.
Sam Felsted, ’21, started the Ranger scoring effort with an RBI double in the fourth, which brought home Ethan Garcia, ’21.
Daryl Tillman, ’23, brought home Edgar Gonzalez, ’21, on a sac fly into center.
“[My thoughts were] put the ball in play. He’s not gonna throw anything by me that I haven’t seen before,” said Tillman.
Other than that, it was a pretty quiet day for the Rangers on offense. The defense didn’t do much either, as Redwood would fall short, 12-2, thanks to mercy rule.
Ethan Garcia and Dakota Brown each had two strikeouts, so that was a positive.
Brown believes that their “team chemistry [will] pay off in the long run.”
“We’re family here, we got each other’s backs.”
Catcher, Sam Felsted, ’21
Ryan Rios, the first baseman, had this to say about the team’s current situation, “Baseball is [a game] of failure, but we have to come through when we are in situations to take control of the game. When we start making the most of our opportunities, we’ll have success.”
Although morale is down, Coach Hydash wants everyone to remember that, “We are still the team to beat.”
“We just need to keep believing in the process.”
Redwood Varsity Baseball Head Coach, Dan Hydash
The Rangers will host Buchanan this Saturday at 11am with hopes of getting out of their funk.
