On March 30, CSF members recently attended the first official in-person meeting of the 2021-2022 school year in the Redwood gymnasium.

This past Wednesday marked the second CSF general meeting of the second semester.

While Redwood seniors and juniors have been able to experience this format of meetings throughout their CSF careers, sophomores and freshman students have only participated through Zoom online.

During the meeting, senior life-time memberships were addressed to the graduating class. Seniors were also informed about their CSF senior luncheon.

On March 5, CSF held a community service opportunity in which they reflected on during the meeting.

Considering the turnout of the previous event, this month of April has a new service project in effort to raise items for animal shelters, which the CSF team encouraged members to participate in.

After recapping the events that occurred prior to Wednesday’s meeting, the officers went on to announce Brynlee Rasmussen, ’22 (president) and Madison Allan, ’22 (treasurer) as Seymour finalists, each receiving two thousand dollars to input as scholarship money for their college educations.

Not only were these topics discussed, although next year’s CSF officers and new advisor were announced.

Natalie Nelson, ’24 and Jacquelyn Alexander, ’24 will be the upcoming junior associates. Leena Aziz, ’23 will be vice president, as Kylie Schieferle, ’23 will obtain the role as president.

Mrs. Nicole Vieira, teacher of English II Honors and AP Literature, will be taking over as the CSF advisor due to the current CSF advisor, Mrs. Georgette Cheatwood, retiring.

In review of the meeting, Rasmussen says the in-person experience, “was so much better than being on a Zoom screen. The Zoom was nice, seeing people come, but in-person was so much better seeing actual faces and smiles. It was exciting.”

Though she had concerns regarding the microphones malfunctioning, Rasmussen says how the hard work implemented paid off, “[It takes] about a month; the process of planning everything out and getting the mics to work.”

CSF Vice President Bailey Nelson, ’22 felt the meeting was relieving.

In the previous years, Rasmussen and Nelson did not have the chance to execute a meeting in-person, so this was a new experience for the two. “The week before, [Brynlee] and I were put in as new officers our sophomore year, everything shut down. So, Brynlee and I have never done a meeting in-person.”

Similar to her fellow officer, Nelson was concerned with the microphones not functioning properly, since during her sophomore year she remembers the microphones cutting out were a big problem.

Nelson was also worried for the number of members who would attend. “We were really worried about people coming because we’ve seen a drop in CSF numbers since the shut down, but luckily it seemed that we had almost a full gym, and a lot of people showed up,” she adds.

To continue your status as an active member in CSF, participate in community service events, keep grades up, and attend upcoming meetings.
