Redwood cross country capped off a great season with another WYL title. Boys and Girls ran hard, trained hard, and in the end took it home.

Lionel Inphom, ’21, said, “It feels great to win WYL, all of our hard repeats and workouts finally paid off.” He also explained how keeping the WYL winning streak alive was really important to them, which is now up to 8 consecutive years.

Mia Maciel, ’22, was a big part of the girls success this season as the #2 runner on the roster. She explains how hard they trained for this moment, and how much dig it took from them.

Along with Lionel she says it, “feels great to win WYL again this year, we work so hard together as a team to get here each and every year.”

Moving forward she explains that the team wants to move forward with positive and “eager” attitudes. One of their biggest helps is their positive outlook on practice, and the great coaching that help them push past the competition, and separate themselves from the rest.

Tristen Schieferle, ’21, says that before the meet they had a pasta feed at his house. “It was so much fun, we played darts and we were pretty much just making fun of each other outside.” They always like to have fun, even before a meet.

All three agree that the air could have been much better. Schieferle said “Other than the air the weather was great, but the air was just awful.”

Next year they are going to miss Ryan Hemphill go, Tristen explains that he was basically the star of the show.

Altogether they had a fantastic season full of great memories. Maciel explains everyone is and should be excited for the future, because Redwood Cross Country is here to stay. Congrats to the team again on the 8 year WYL champion streak.
