It isn’t uncommon for Rangers at Redwood High School to establish businesses of their own. Their unique miniature businesses are a reflection of their personal hobbies, encouraging them to turn their passions into jobs and offer their services to their classmates.

Forever Linked, a jewelry business, was founded by Alyssa Hutchison, ‘28. She provides both permanent and detachable jewelry, customizable with charms of all varieties.

The idea sprouted from Hutchison’s interest in permanent bracelets. Hutchison says, “I have been wanting a permanent bracelet for a very long time and I went and got one. [After,] me and my mom were like ‘Let’s create a mother-daughter business!’ so then we created it.”

Starting a business is no simple endeavor. The process requires extensive research and planning to ensure the best outcome for the founder and profits.

“Me and my mom did some research, found some websites, and we found this starter-kit which gave me directions on how to weld the bracelet together, safety instructions, and where to buy all my products,” said Hutchison.

Supportive parents are a cardinal part of developing a business, especially as a high school student. Hutchison says, “Yes, my parents did support me. They’re actually a big part of it. They help me with the money—like, getting all the money to start it and I will continue paying it off.”

Forever Linked launched in August 2024 and has accumulated about three thousand dollars in revenue since. Hutchison hopes to pay off the finances she inputted into the creation of her company and to extend it further.

No business comes with the absence of struggles. Hutchison continues to pay off the initial cost of all products while also splitting the funds between her and her mother. “The way we figured that out was creating a spreadsheet that organizes all the money we paid and all the money we still need to pay off,” said Hutchison.

To balance both her sports and academic life with her company, Hutchison tends to complete schoolwork and do volleyball during the weekdays, devoting her weekend to Forever Linked.

As Forever Linked rises, Hutchison has attended multiple vendor fairs almost every weekend to assist in sales and publicizing her jewelry business. She hopes to expand to different cities but has ventured to Porterville, Fresno, and Visalia.
