Redwood High School seniors have not had the year they were looking forward to; they have missed out on a lot of planned senior activities and fun. COVID-19 heavily impacted their year.
The pandemic put a lot of stress on all students and teachers who were having to adapt to online classes and Zoom. No senior was expecting a pandemic to hit and cause everything to shut down.
2021 seniors are now getting ready to finish off their last year of high school in a different way.
Redwood High School Class of 2021 will be having a graduation ceremony, but with a twist. All seniors will be having an appointment graduation throughout the day of June 4th.
Varsity cheerleader, Alexia Guzman, ‘21, will be graduating this year. She has been a cheerleader for Redwood High School for 3 and a half years. “I’m pretty sad we aren’t having a ceremony because that’s what graduation is all about, but I’m still happy and excited that they are having us still do something so we have a special moment for our last year of high school,” said Guzman.
Seniors are upset that they will not be able to have their ceremony like how it usually is, with lights and streamers and all the seniors together in the Mineral King Bowl.
Another high school senior, Israel Cisneros also had an opinion on how seniors will have their special day spent, “I think our graduation is a good way to stay safe, and it’s also better than nothing. Picking up our cap and gown was the closest thing of everything feeling like a normal year, but not having a ceremony will be different, but it’s okay.”
Seniors are upset that they will not have the ceremony that they wished to have,, but they also agree that something is better than nothing. Graduating high school will always be a great experience that the seniors will remember for a lifetime.
