Most people watching a play or musical know the name of the characters rather than the actor who portrays them.

Brynnlie Travis, ‘26, is an actor in Drama and is in the class Stage Design. She shares information about different aspects of her life in Drama.

Travis says, “I got involved with musicals as a little kid, and I’ve always really enjoyed it. I really like putting on a character and going out on stage, and the acting is a big part for me. It’s kind of how I sometimes process my emotions.”

As an active actor for Redwood High School, she’s built a strong liking for the Redwood program. She says, “I really like doing Redwood’s program because it’s very professional, and it’s a lot of community because I met a lot of friends there I wouldn’t have met otherwise.”

Travis also talks about how she gets into character.

Travis says she likes to imagine what her characters would do off stage, “So, me being the grandma, [a character in a musical], I might shape my character kind of how to be like, what was my favorite snack when I was younger? What was my favorite game?”

Travis also explains what drama is to her; she says, “It’s friends and it’s family, and it’s a service to everyone around you. And it’s a way of expression.”

Travis gives out a message to anyone interested in drama. She says, “Definitely just put yourself out there. It seems really scary and getting on that stage seems like this insurmountable task, but once you do it, you just see all the benefits, because you free yourself and you free your audience of the down force life puts on you.”
