With the premiere of the musical Bye Bye Birdie this week, the leading role of Mrs. Mae Peterson is portrayed by Brooklyn Burch, ‘24.
When seeing the cast-list, Burch says she felt “ecstatic.”
She describes Mrs. Mae Peterson, as “an over-the-top character”. Burch says, “I was excited to perform as her on stage.”
During rehearsals, the cast members learn to understand not only their characters but others and learn to interact with each other’s characters.
To prepare for the role, Bruch went through each line and analyzed the character’s motive and how to best portray it.
As opening night approaches, Burch says, “I am excited to play into Mrs. Peterson’s antics this year and go big.”
Live theater is not complete without an audience; they are the final piece to the puzzle. When talking about opening night Bruch says, “Little things like learning when to pause for laughter amplify your show and you don’t realize it until opening night.”
Upon her excitement regarding the premiere, Burch says “We have an amazing cast, crew, and directing teams behind the scenes that I couldn’t thank enough.”
Tickets are available to purchase online here or in-person at the LJ Williams Theater on February 2, 3, and 4. The musical will debut February 2 and 3 at 7:00pm, and the 4 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.
