January welcomed Redwood into the year 2022. ASB has been promoting events that are approaching Redwood’s campus during and after school.

“I think we’re getting back to somewhat some normalcy, which is a good thing.” Principal Matt Shin remarks. Shin enjoys students getting involved in club day, sports, and other school activities.

He notes that school activities are the “most active” they have been in a long time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, “I’m seeing a lot more of what it used to look like” he says.

The student equity meeting was a notable event last month. Board President Juan Guerrero joined Redwood students to listen to what they had to say.

Shin was also at the meeting. He says, “It was a good way for me to address some of the concerns they had and be able to give them answers. So that they could walk away feeling a little bit better.”

Redwood has remarkable things happening, but the issue of tardies still stands.

Tardies seem to be a running issue, despite Redwood being halfway through the 2021-2022 school year.

Redwood’s administration team came up with some solutions last semester, but tardies are still lingering.

Shin predicts that the issue will grow as the winter weather fades. “We have to really force kids to want to get to class,” he states.

He feels that students should understand that 10 minutes is “plenty of time” to get to class.

Shin stresses the importance of punctuality. He feels that being punctual is a life skill that students need to have.

He mentions that being on time to class will help students in the future, “If you are late to your job, you’re not going to have your job. School is your job right now.”
