Over the past few days, the Lady Rangers Varsity Basketball team took first place in the Monarch Holiday Classic at Exeter Union High School. They went 4-0 playing Wednesday-Saturday and dominated every team with a good lead showing athleticism and a major threat in the Central Valley.

In the first win Wednesday afternoon even after lots of uniform and bus issues, the girls pulled off a 59-8 against Lindsay High. With four threes overall and a total of 16 points, Jackie Ledesma led the team and Krissy Hetherington had 10 points also. The entire team was able to score showing great versatility on the bench and in the starting lineup.

On Thursday, the girls won a tough and fast game against Hoover from Fresno, 44-35. Clarissa Chavez led the team with 12 points, Ledesma with 8, and 7 points for Hetherington, Savannah Surfus, and Janessa Haro. The team being from Fresno, pushed the girls to play fast, but the Rangers controlled tempo and speed and played to their strengths.

Friday, to move onto the championship game, Redwood won 51-39 against Monache High School  who is also in the Central Section DII. Once again, everyone scored and leading scorers included Ledesma with 10 and Haro with 8. This shows that the points spread across the lineup and a skilled rotation for the girls.

Finally, the girls sealed the deal with a defeat against the home school, Exeter 63-26. Everyone scored again and powered past the Monarchs with smooth movement of the ball and quick transitions. They were able to get many picks and rebounds to come out on top. Scoring leaders included Haro with 14 and Chavez with 15.

Clarissa Chavez and Jackie Ledesma also received a medal for being standout players during the tournament. The team received the 1st place plaque which was a big deal since the girls haven’t won a tournament in quite awhile.

The girls are now 9-2 moving forward as the number 2 seed in Playoffs right now. Their next game is against Tulare Union at Home 7:30 today so make sure to go support them and their 6 game winning streak!
