With packed schedules that stretch from classrooms to rehearsal rooms and practice fields, students at Redwood High School are learning how to balance demanding academics with time-consuming extracurricular activities. They rely on time management, prioritization, and personal discipline to succeed both in and out of school.

Ella Noblitt, ’27, who was a part of Redwood’s musical, says, “When rehearsal overlaps, I spend only one hour at either the musical or fall play, and then I go to band because band has priorities because it’s the heat of the season.”

Noblitt says she waits till the last minute for assignments because the urgency makes her think better and get her work done in time.

Students who are really involved here at Redwood have to balance their classwork and any other extracurricular activities they might have outside of school

Madeline Schafer, ’29, says, “How I balance schoolwork with the musical is I try to finish a lot of my schoolwork in other classes, and so whenever I have free time, I do my work.”

Schafer says, “I usually go from one activity straight to another.”

Gabrielle Contreras, ’29, says, “My schoolwork is pretty easy to me, so I usually focus during class and get all my work done before any cheer practices and games.”

Contreras also says, “I make sure to have personal time for myself so I don’t overwork myself.”

Michela Pasquini, ’27, says, “when im doing my homework, I really try to figure out which is the hardest, so I can prioritize when I’m running out of time, I can do the easier ones.”

Pasquini said being in dance is a lot more hours, and a lot more weekends; dance is a year-round sport.

Pasquini also says, “Dance force keeps me motivated on being on top of my work because I’m always trying to make sure that I can give my all to dance, and I can’t give my all to dance if I don’t give my all to my schoolwork first.”
