Students describe their experiences and thoughts on this year’s Haunted Sierra Vista event hosted by Link Crew.
On October 18th, the Redwood Link Crew, advised this year by Mrs. Wall brought back the long-running tradition of transforming Sierra Vista into a haunted hallway. From after school to when doors opened in the evening, Link Crew was busy setting up props, costumes, lights, and speakers to prepare for the night.
The tradition has been at Redwood for years, but like many things, it died out because of the pandemic. For the majority of the students, this was their first ever haunted Sierra Vista.
Aside from the main attraction, the event also held various carnival games such as the corn hole toss, alongside food and drink stands.
Solomon Burciaga, ‘24, an actor in the event, says how right after class ended on Tuesday, Link crew had to “go and set everything up,” having a limited time to prepare until the event started in the evening. Burciaga says his experience as an actor was “pretty funny,” with the reactions of the various people all being different, with some getting scared “at the littlest movements.” Burciaga further says how the event went well for him, with the “actors being phenomenal.”
Lindamarie Herrera, ‘24, says that she was “one of the first people” to enter the hallway, being “especially scared towards the beginning,” and after finishing it, saying she “didn’t expect it to be that scary.” Herrera also says that she was “pretty skeptical” about going to the event, noting how Redwood’s “school spirit has been dying,” saying that if more people went and supported school-hosted events, it would “help fix our school spirit.”
Roman Villagomez ‘24, says that the Link Crew this year did a “really good job,” being “surprised” at the production quality, but recommended for next year that they should “add more carnival games” to add to the experience. Villagomez says that the event is “one of the best Redwood has to offer,” recommending those who missed the event to go if they have the chance again.
