With AI’s Popularity on the rise, its becoming an unavoidable part of education, and while teachers recognize its risks, they believe it should be carefully controlled and used as a tool to enhance learning rather than replace human effort.

Artificial intelligence has been discussed since the 1950s. It began with Alan Turing questioning whether machines could think. Today, AI is used by students, businesses and hospitals. It has become a part of entertainment, social media, shopping and communication.

Chemistry teacher, Mr. Arruda said that he has used AI for his teachings. Arruda views AI as a part of our world and we just have to accept it. He claims he has used it for coming up with questions for a study guide or double check answers.

Arruda draws the line on making tests for students. He said there is an ethical policy and you should control it, not let it control you.

“I went to school to get my degree in teaching and I need to use what I know and not forget how to do that kind of stuff because it’s still important.” Arruda said.

Arruda said that he would like to find out new ways to use AI in the future but it’s just figuring out what that line is.

Math 3 Honors and AP Calculus teacher, Mr. Quezada, said that he has used AI with his teaching. He said, “If AI is used, there needs to be safety parameters but if used carefully, it’s a tool that allows us to make whatever you bring to the table better.”

Quezada said this to emphasize that AI is used to enhance what you already know rather than letting it do the work for you as most students tend to do.

Quezada has used AI for lesson design. He will bring an idea to AI and it will generate the picture that would’ve taken him longer to create.

He said that he still likes to do things authentically but will use it for an extra pair of eyes. Quezada also said that he doesn’t see it going anywhere but will set better parameters and guidance.

English teacher, Michaela Sanchez, said she has used AI in the past. She said she is indifferent with AI. She sees the good and the bad but if she teaches the kids how to use it it will be more effective.

Sanchez has used AI for creating images to help students understand dreams and symbols in stories. She has also drawn the line with creating assignments. She uses AI to brainstorm and makes it her own thing.

We see it with essential subjects such as science, math and english but what other classes is this present in?

Art teacher, Steven Harris, has used AI for paintings, animation and brainstorming. His opinion on AI is, “It’s going to be amazing or it’s going to be the end of the world.”

Harris sees no need in setting a limit to AI. “AI is here no matter what. We can either tame it and use it as a tool or let it control us and if you don’t understand it and you don’t know it you’re doomed to let it control us.” Harris said.

We all have different opinions on AI but whether you like it or not, it’s here to stay. Some will revolt against AI but it’s easy to go against it when someone isn’t pressured by the duty of teachers.

AI is a resource that is meant to be used to the best advantage and it’s here to stay. Revolting only pushes it away to other hands and it’s best to control it rather than fear it. There’s only dark days ahead of us when you hide the light and that’s what AI is.
