Abigail Ray, ‘26, plays one part of the iconic plastic trio as Gretchen Weiners. Gretchen is known for showing off her lavish lifestyle and knowing all of the secrets around the school (that’s why her hair is so big).
Ray says that this is her first year with Redwood Drama but she has been involved in Musical Theater since the 2nd grade. She shares her excitement to take on this role.
“It is really interesting because it is such a contrast to my normal personality. It is really cool to play somebody that I really don’t relate to in any way.”
Ray notes the involvement of Drama Teacher Mrs. Galvan in the production.
She says, “I absolutely adore Galvan, she has always been by my side. She is a great teacher and a super great role model to look up to. Personally, I love working under her and being in her cast.”
Ray says that she has not seen the 2024 Mean Girls Movie. “I have been trying to hold back to prevent any character changes because I feel like if I were to see Gretchen in the new movie I would change my character, and I want my character to be unique.”
“I am trying to stay very true to the essence of Gretchen but I am of course putting my own personal twist on it. Gretchen can be interpreted in so many different ways and I am just interpreting her in one of those ways,” says Ray.
