School spirit is a big part of Redwood. ASB is the people behind the scenes making sure the school is hype and excited to be at Redwood.
ASB doesn’t just help show school spirit during school, but also during football games.
And with cowhide as the biggest football game of the year, they make sure to bring the hype on the sidelines.
Adrian Lopez-Guzman, ASB president said, “ASB’s plans, as a whole, to get the crowd hyped, is like when we pass out the items before the game, make sure everybody has something so they don’t feel left out, and then making sure that they are involved and ready to go. That’s kind of the basis of what we do, trying to get them hyped right before the game. And when the game kicks off that’s when the fun begins.”
Guzman plans to keep up with one of the many traditions for cowhide.
He said, “It’s a tradition that the presidents go up, and they ride around the whole track with the hide. I hope to get students hype when it goes around our side, just getting them all pumped up, ready to take the hide and keep it home.”
As Cowhide as the biggest game of the year, the pressure is on to make the most memorable one yet.
Guzman said, “I think it’s just the weight of this is cowhide. Cowhide is one of our biggest traditions here at Redwood. So it’s like the heat is on and you have to make sure everything is perfect down to the bone.”
But how do they plan to make it the best one yet?
He said, “Just the wow factors really. It’s those key wow factors that we have like before the game, like the halftime of the game, that’s what makes it memorable.”
Football games, especially Cowhide, can be really unpredictable. So ASB has to be ready for everything that could happen.
Guzman said, “We’re figuring out what music is best in the moment. It’s all about adapting, because of the fact that we can be down some, and we could be up some, so we need to figure out what chants we’re doing to hype up the crowd.”
The excitement of the crowd isn’t just for them, but it also encourages the players to do their best.
Adrian said, “And as we hype up the crowd, that actually hypes up the football players. They want us to say chants, they want us to be hyped. They want us to have fun there, because that energy just transfers over to them, actually going hard and playing hard in the games, and then eventually winning the game for us.”
Through their efforts, ASB hopes Cowhide will be remembered not only for the game but also for the excitement and school spirit among the students.
