Coach Watts is a PE teacher at Redwood highschool teaching for 23 years at Redwood and has previously taught at Cesar High School in Delano, in Strathmore, and at El Diamante.
Watts said, “I lived in the area and I was working in Delano and I wanted to get closer and I just applied until I finally started my teaching experience.”
Watts has impacted many people at Redwood throughout his 23 years of teaching, he has been the role model to many other teachers and has had the opportunity to be the wrestling coach.
Roebuck (Weight Training PE teacher) said, “I’m honestly kind of terrified and nervous just because he’s been a pillar of what we have accomplished here at redwood for so long and he has always been that guy that I can lean on in the department so now it’s gonna be like when you leave home for college and your on your own and that’s what I really see coming on the horizon.”
Watts has had an experience through his teaching career, working with athletes and winning multiple championships is one of his favorite memories that will stick with him forever.
Watts said, “Winning multiple championships will always be an accomplishment while working at Redwood High School because it shows the hard work and dedication I’ve gave while teaching these Wrestling Athletes.”
There are many mixed emotions on Watts retiring after this school year, many friendship connections with other teachers, and students will miss him with all the leadership he brings to Redwood it will definitely feel different.
Braun (PE Teacher at Redwood High school) has been working along with Watts for 4 years. “When I came here he was the department chair and still is, but I’m also super happy for him he has worked hard for many years so I think its a great opportunity for him to step back from coaching and from PE and enjoy this next chapter of his” she says.
First impression on Watts it seems like he isn’t someone that likes to talk a lot and just does his job but if you really get to know him he is always fair and gives you a valued opinion even if it is not the opinion you are looking for, he is always gonna be honest.
Roebuck said, “He is the glue that holds things together, I will definitely miss having someone to lean on when we need to have our conversations or when big decisions have to be made.”
Roebuck has worked with Watts for 10 years and had has a chance to teach Watts kids when they were in High School and now Roebuck’s kids get to be around him while seeing the fun light through life evolving their are many hopes for Watts plans after retirement.
Braun said, “I hope he takes his trailer to the beach so often and i hope he gets to hangout with his grand kids and maybe get to coach them and i really hope he enjoys every moment of it because he deserves it.”
Watts last year here at Redwood is a big thing as if he were graduating with the senior class of ’27 we are very thankful for everything he has brought to Redwood High School as to being a welcoming person, coaching, being a leader, and letting everyone fit in.
Roebuck said, “Hes a character and will be very missed.”
After retirement, Watts has great plans ahead of him “I’m just gonna travel but i will miss being around all the kids daily and having the memories of being recognized or looked upon as well as the grind of teaching on the daily basis”.
Coach Watts wants his advice to be in everyone’s mind whenever motivation is needed. “Keep working hard and see the light at the end of the tunnel, once you get to college and finish with all of that start making all of the big bucks.”
