Redwood High School’s Lola Sullivan, ’28, is stepping into the spotlight this spring as Lily in the school’s upcoming production of “Anastasia.”

The production has been in preparation for several months and features students from multiple grade levels.

For Sullivan, being cast in a well-known musical so early in her high school journey is both exciting and meaningful.

With a long-standing love for musical theater, Sullivan says that performing has always been a passion of hers, “I’ve always done musicals since I was little, and it’s always been my passion.”

She explained that theater has helped her express herself creatively and build confidence over the years.

Participating in productions has allowed her to form close friendships with other students who share similar interests.

Sullivan describes the audition process as slightly intimidating but ultimately positive: “It was a little nerve-racking, but I would say it was a pretty good one,” she said.

She prepared by practicing her music in advance and focusing on staying calm during her audition.

Despite her nerves, Sullivan said the supportive environment helped make the experience more enjoyable.

She also noted that the process was straightforward and that she did not face obstacles during auditions.

When she found out she had been cast, Sullivan said she was thrilled, especially as a sophomore. “I was very happy, like I was very excited, and I was just so happy because I didn’t expect to get anything,” she explained.

She said receiving the role was especially surprising because she did not know what to expect by going against older and more experienced performers.

The moment confirmed her love for theater and motivated her to work even harder during rehearsals.

As rehearsals continue for “Anastasia,” Sullivan encourages other students to consider joining theater productions in the future. “I would say it’s a very good idea because no matter what, it’s a fun thing to do, and you get a lot of confidence,” she says.

Sullivan says, “All the people there are really good and very fun.”
