On March 30th, Redwood’s Winter Percussion and Color Guard performed at Golden West High school. The purpose of this performance was to give the opportunity for the community to come together and watch the local schools in the area before their championships which took place Friday, April 1st.

Captain of the Winter Percussion Kayla Seitz ‘22 who performed her solo Rain Dance by Alice Gomez and Marilyn Rife says “I thought it was a good solo to showcase some of my musicality as it isn’t extremely difficult note wise, but allows for a lot of artistic interpretation”.

Seitz says ”I’m really excited to see how far we have come, and I’m really proud of the entire group . . . even if this is my last season with them! I’ve been a part of Winter Percussion for the last four years, and it was an amazing experience”.

Danica Palardy ’22 who also performed in the winter percussion performance was amazed that “The change of environment really helped the team succeed. This was the first show we performed that wasn’t competitive … “.

Palardy says “It felt amazing performing at Golden West with no pressure. But we have never gotten a crowd response like that before”.

Winter guard member Evan Judson ‘22 says “I think it goes without saying but I hope we can get first. We really are a competitive division and really close to taking first place, I just want us to finish off the season strong and score the highest of this season.”

Judson ‘22 added when he saw what the other schools  performed that  “They had so much going on in their show, I thought Golden West had an amazing color guard performance … at one time there wasn’t just one thing to look at. I loved the concept and execution of the Mt. Whitney percussion. The performers definitely sold the performance and added so much to it.”

Palardy adds “We are all excited for Champs. If we win, it will be a first for the Redwood Winter line. We will bear medals of our success and the success of Redwood … props to my team. They have dedicated countless hours of hard work to this program so that it can be the best, and winning championships wouldn’t be anything less than what they deserve.”

Seitz ‘22 adds on about championships on Friday “I’m really excited for Championships! I think we have the potential to do extremely well … We have put in the work … we all [Winter guard and Percussion] remember what we are there for, focus, and have a good show, I think we will produce something amazing. That’s the ultimate goal, to produce a great piece of art. Winning and scoring well are just bonuses.”
