Club day is a very important event that takes place at Redwood High School every year at the beginning of the first semester. However, this year a second one took place at the beginning of the second semester, for the first time ever
Nana Chong, ’22, is a member of FBLA and believes that a second club day is a very good opportunity. Chong says, “It’s like a second chance for people who were not sure of joining at first but then they heard their friends may be coming to the meetings and all the activities they were told about.” It was mainly for showing what sections coming up and they were trying to promote their hygiene closet so they could get more donations to give back to the community. Chong explains the first club day was about recruiting members and the second one was giving information about the club.
Jasmine Luna, ’22, is the Vice President of the Multi-Cultural club. This club was designed to bring in a diverse group of students. They welcome all grades and all types of people from them. The goal is to get involved with the school while also learning about different cultures. Luna says, “The second club day helped because we had some people in and they helped spread the word and we were much more organized.” When asked about recruitments for the club, Luna says that she has included a bunch of her friends.
Katelynn Alvarez, ’21, is an ASB member and the co-president of the new Bullet Journaling Club. Bullet Journaling Club is a place where Alvarez wants a diverse group of people who share a mutual interest to come and relieve stress through the activity of bullet journaling. Alvarez and the club staff would like to teach members about the health benefits of bullet journaling. She says, “We’re hoping that it’s a really chill club that brings different groups of people together and creates more diversity, because we all like to color.” Alvarez thinks that the second club day was a really good membership drive for older clubs and the newer ones. A second club day next year is likely to be in sight, as Alvarez states, “Second club day is still in the air, we did determine that it was a huge success.”
The second club day was a great chance for students who thought of a club they wanted to join but didn’t the first time. It also made people want to start new clubs that would make a perfect addition to redwood.
