The 61st Grammy Award Nominations were announced on Friday, December 7th.  The award ceremony will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, on February 10th, 2019. These awards will honor artists in many categories, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, and 80 other Grammy Awards.  Nominations for these awards are in genres, such as Pop, Rap, Rock, Jazz, Reggae, Historical, Comedy, New Age, and 22 others.

The Grammy Awards ceremony was first held in 1959 on May 4th, to honor the musical performers of 1958. Keeping the tradition alive, the ceremony is coming back, once again with the famous awards that look just like a gramophone. The voting membership of The Recording Academy will bestow the greatest honor, of the art of music, to the nominee chosen for each award in each category.

The number of nominations vary with each artist on the billboard.  The top two nominees are Kendrick Lamar, with 8 nominations, and Drake, with 7 nominations. Lady Gaga and Childish Gambino also have 5 nominations each, and 4 nominations go towards Post Malone.  The biggest winner in all of Grammy Award History was Georg Solti with 31 awards. Let’s see how the 2019 nominees do.

Many of the other artists were nominated only once.  However, for most of these artists being nominated only once is a huge accomplishment. One of those artists was BTS, a K-Pop group. The group is the first K-Pop act to ever receive a nomination for a Grammy Award.  This nomination was for the Best Recording Package with their album, Love Yourself: Tear.
